PhilaU Textile Design work on exhibit at Plastics Chemistry Fair - Franklin Institute



Philadelphia University Textile Design students exhibited their knitted and woven textiles at the Fashionably Plastic table at the Plastics Chemistry Fair held at the Franklin Institute on January 25th.

The fair is organized by the Society of Plastic Engineers and exposes both the general public and plastics industry professionals to the wide potential of plastic materials into a variety of fields, in this case textiles.

Shima Seiki tutor works with students.

Earlier this month, Carlos Martinazzo, knitting tutor for Shima Seiki, spent three days working with graduate and undergraduate students at PhilaU upon WholeGarment Technology and knitting.

Resist Dye on the Silk Road: Contemporary Art

Textile Design professor Marcia Weiss had artwork entitled Pendulum Fusion exhibited at the China National Silk Museum in the exhibition Resist Dye on the Silk Road:  Contemporary Art.  This exhibit was held in conjunction with the 9th International Shibori Symposium in Hangzhou, China.

Sunbrella Anniversary Celebration

Textile Design M.S. students Kailey Smith and Xue "Susan" Sun attended a celebration at the New York offices of Sunbury Textile Mills.  Sunbury and Glen Raven, Inc. sponsored a Spring 2014 competition to envision the "next 20 years" of the Sunbrella brand.  Kailey and Susan were two of the award-winning students.  Their textile designs were featured in the Sunbury showroom for this major industry event.  Congratulations to Kailey and Susan, as well as to Mary Armacost (TD M.S.'14) and Emily Weiss (TD B.S.'14) for their outstanding work!

Professor E.J. Herczyk's work in exhibit New Sight


Professor E.J. Herczyk has work included in the exhibition New Sight at Three Nineteen Gallery in Philadelphia. The opening is Friday, Sept. 5th, 6-9pm. The show runs from September 5th through October 18th.

Fashion and Textile Career Discovery Workshop

The Textile Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising and Management programs hosted a career discovery workshop for interested prospective students June 23-26, 2014.  Workshop participants were engaged in a fast-paced week of design research, fashion sketching, weaving, knitting, printing, draping and marketing.  The students created a wonderful range of textiles and fashions.  See below for images from the week.
