Textile Designer Lilly Cartwright Awarded Best in Show

Textile Design Freshman Lilly Cartwright was awarded Best in Show for her work in the 2019 Pushpin Exhibition.  Pushpin is an annual drawing and design show held at Jefferson to celebrate the outstanding work of design students across all creative disciplines.  Lilly created the winning work in Advanced Drawing: Materials and Techniques. Congratulations, Lilly!

Textile Design Master of Science Degree Show May 3rd

Please join us for the MS Textile Design degree show and reception on Friday May 3rd from 4pm to 7pm at the Design Center at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University).  This is a great celebration of the amazing work of: Robin Althouse, Sivan Ilan, Regan Marriner, Katherine McCarthy, and April Traugott.


New York City Immersion: Woolmark and Material Connexion

Textile Design students spent March 25th in New York City with visits to Woolmark International and Material Connexion.  Angi Domsitz of Woolmark shared information and lead a great discussion regarding the company, merino wool and the Woolmark Performance Challenge.
At Material Connexion, a great materials resource library, students explored the wide range of materials on display in the library.  A few selected images are here below:




Textile Design Alumni Panel

On March 20th, the Textile Design programs hosted our second alumni panel of the semester.  We welcomed back to campus:  Lindsey Baker (MSTD) Design Director at United Fabrics, Jessica Thies (BSTD) Textile Manager at Lori Weitzner, and Victoria Dalessandro (BSTD) Senior Textile Engineer at Ethicon.  All shared their career paths and insights with our students.  It was a great evening of networking for all involved.

Textile Designers visit MTL: amazing textile manufacturer

On March 19th, 16 students and 3 faculty involved in a semester-long textile design/furniture collaboration visited MTL in Jessup, PA.  We had a wonderful tour and discussion, along with a great "show and tell" of beautiful fabrics.  Joy Alaoui, Design Director, and members of her team were wonderful ambassadors of sharing the great work they do.  Thank you very much to MTL for the ongoing partnership!  Please see a few images from the day.

Textile Designers Participate in Furniture Collaboration

Jefferson Textile Designers are participating in a semester-long collaboration with students in Advanced Furniture Making to create and produce upholstered furnishings.  As part of the research, students and faculty took a wonderful tour of the Knoll International Showroom in Philadelphia.  Please see the images below for a view into the visit.

Stoll Knitting Equipment--Brand New!!!

On March 1st the Fashion & Textiles Futures Center accepted delivery of our brand new Stoll whole garment knitting machine.  Despite the snowy day, the riggers did an excellent job of getting the new equipment into our studio.  The below are a few images of the delivery.  Check back in Fall to see the exciting new work created by our students on this machine.
