Textile Design Student Studies in Scotland
Textile Design Junior Brett Udovich spent the Fall 2014 semester studying at Heriot-Watt University in Galashiels, Scotland. Brett was selected to participate in a unique exchange program between PhilaU and Heriot-Watt, where the two universities "exchange" students in the Fall semester of each year. Shima Seiki tutor works with students.
Earlier this month, Carlos Martinazzo, knitting tutor for Shima Seiki, spent three days working with graduate and undergraduate students at PhilaU upon WholeGarment Technology and knitting.

Resist Dye on the Silk Road: Contemporary Art
Textile Design professor Marcia Weiss had artwork entitled Pendulum Fusion exhibited at the China National Silk Museum in the exhibition Resist Dye on the Silk Road: Contemporary Art. This exhibit was held in conjunction with the 9th International Shibori Symposium in Hangzhou, China.

Professor Marcia Weiss presented a paper at the 9th International Shibori Symposium in Hangzhou China, October 31-November 4, 2014. The paper entitled Artisan Textiles, Global Markets, included a discussion of appropriation of Central Asian Ikats and Malian Bogolan. Please see the below images from the conference and trip.

Alumna Hyunsoo Kim Reviews Exhibition in Korea
Alumna Hyunsoo "Alice" Kim wrote a review of the exhibit Do Ho Suh: Home within Home within Home within Home within Home for Surface Design Journal. The exhibit at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of the Seoul National Museum ran from November 2013 to May 2014. Alice's review was featured in the Summer 2014 issue of Surface Design Journal; an issue focused on Korea East & West. Congratulations Alice!
